A private estate on the Spice Island
The Residence Zanzibar sits within a forested 32-hectare estate on the island's quiet southwest coast, some 75 minutes from Stone Town, with the fishing village of Kizimkazi a short drive further south. A mile of powder-white beach runs the length of the property, and every one of its 66 villas is set back from the sand behind its own stretch of tropical garden.
Swahili, Omani, British and Indian influences run through the resort's low, tiled-roof architecture, and through its two restaurants and spa in turn. Each villa comes with its own private pool, a pair of bicycles, and paths that lead through the gardens toward the water rather than corridors.
