The Residence Mauritius sits on the east coast at Belle Mare, its low white pavilions modelled on the island's turn-of-the-century plantation houses. A mile of pale sand runs the length of the property, framed by thirteen acres of tropical garden and the Indian Ocean beyond.
The mood is unhurried: shuttered rooms in white and beige, a nightly trace of ylang ylang, and a garden spa pavilion built around a lagoon. Three restaurants, a children's club named for the plantation, and an 18-hole course nearby round out a stay built for slow mornings and long afternoons.
