A lagoon built for slow horizons
Soneva Jani sits across a cluster of five islands in one of the Maldives' largest lagoons, in Noonu Atoll. Medhufaru, the main island, connects by a long timber jetty to villas that stand over the water on stilts, each one built with a retractable roof and a slide that drops straight into the sea.
Days here move between water and sky: paddling out at dawn, an overwater outdoor cinema after dinner, and a resident astronomer on hand for clear nights. The Den, one of the region's largest children's clubs, gives families their own island within the island.
