Qambani stands on the tip of the Michamvi peninsula, where Zanzibar's east coast narrows to a point between the open Indian Ocean and the calmer water of Chwaka Bay. The six villas sit along a low coral cliff, each thatched and shaded by palms, with the tide deciding which beach is in reach: a mile of white sand from June to November, or a smaller cove ten minutes' walk away for the rest of the year.
Guests share a ring of communal spaces built for a full day's use: a wide living room open to the garden, a timber dining room, a kitchen cooking full-board menus from three continents, and a gym, spa and entertainment room set around a tropical courtyard. Two pools, one of them a long infinity edge over the ocean, sit within grounds laid out by one of East Africa's best-known garden designers.
