OUTRIGGER Mauritius Beach Resort sits inside the Bel Ombre nature reserve on the island's rugged south coast, well away from the busier north. Low, plantation-style buildings sit under mature trees behind a long stretch of beach, with four pools scattered through the grounds.
The resort leans into island culture rather than importing it: cooking classes in Mauritian cuisine, rum tastings, sega dancing lessons and live entertainment all feature through the week. Four restaurants and a wine room cover most tastes, and the resort partners with Reef Conservation on marine projects along this coastline.
