JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa sits on Vagaru, a natural island near the northern tip of Shaviyani Atoll, reached by a fifty-five-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport. Sixty beach and overwater pool villas run the length of the island, their thatched roofs modelled on upturned dhoni boats, the traditional fishing vessels of the Maldives.
Five restaurants cover Japanese teppanyaki, an overwater grill, treetop Thai and beachfront Italian, alongside Spa by JW's six couple's treatment rooms. Younger guests have their own stretch of beach at Little Griffins, one of the largest kids' clubs in the Maldives, built around a thirteen-metre pirate ship.
