InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort sits on the island's north-west coast, on a stretch of beach overlooking Balaclava Bay. Port Louis and the shops and restaurants of Grand Baie are both a short drive away, and Mont Choisy Le Golf, the only 18-hole course in the north of the island, runs along the resort's edge.
Two infinity pools, four restaurants and a spa fill the days between the beach and the garden paths. Families are well looked after too, with a dedicated kids' club, a toddlers' pool, and a Boat House offering kayaking, snorkelling and daily glass-bottom boat trips over the reef.
