Gold Zanzibar Beach House & Spa sits directly on Kendwa's tideless white sand, on the island's north-west coast, where the water stays calm and shallow long after the tide has turned elsewhere. Seventy-six rooms, suites and villas are arranged among gardens and Makuti-thatched pavilions, a short walk from the beach itself.
Two restaurants, a wide central pool and a Healing Earth spa cover most of a stay without a car ever being needed. Three private villas, named for the Arab, African and Italian souls of the island, sit directly on the sand for guests who would rather not leave their terrace, while Stone Town and the spice plantations remain within easy reach for the days they do.
