A private granite island, remade in full
Fregate lies roughly 55 kilometres east of Mahé, a 200-hectare granite outcrop the size of Monaco. Only a tenth of the island is built on; the rest stays conservation land, wrapped around seven beaches reserved solely for island guests. Just seventeen Fregate Villas and Estates sit among the forest and coastline, each with its own butler, buggy and a layout flexible enough for an extra bedroom, study or wellness room.
The villa roofs curve like a frigatebird's wings, and dinner moves around the island — a beach restaurant, a yacht club barbecue, and dining built into the treehouses above the forest floor. A full-service spa runs to a flotation tank, a Watsu pool and a snow room, though the real distinction lies in what surrounds it: more than 3,000 Aldabra giant tortoises descended from an original 150, and the Seychelles magpie robin, saved here from just fourteen birds left anywhere in the world.
