NORTH MALÉ ATOLL · FIVE STARS

Baros Maldives

A small, boutique island in North Malé Atoll, with a house reef 20 metres from the beach and eight villa categories built around couples.

One of the Maldives' original islands, still quietly ahead

Baros sits in North Malé Atoll, a 25-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport. Opened in 1973, it was the third resort to appear in the Maldives and has kept a boutique scale ever since: the island itself is small enough to cross on foot in ten minutes, ringed by a single white beach and a house reef that begins just 20 metres from the sand.

Eight villa categories run from thatch-roofed beach villas to the two-bedroom Baros Retreat, each with a dedicated villa host on call around the clock. Children under eight are not accepted, a policy that keeps the island's pace deliberately unhurried. The Serenity Spa, three restaurants and the Maldives' first EcoDive Centre round out an island built for couples rather than crowds.
