Alila Kothaifaru Maldives sits on an 11.2-hectare island in Raa Atoll, at the northern edge of the archipelago, reached by a 45-minute seaplane flight from Malé. Eighty pool villas run along the beach and out over the lagoon, each with its own plunge pool and sun deck.
The house reef begins within swimming distance of the shore, worked by an on-site PADI dive centre, and a spa built into the island's tree canopy replaces the more familiar overwater pavilion. Four restaurants, a kids' club and a private sandbank round out the rest.
